Northern Lights

NORTHERN LIGHTS
CAMP DENALI ALASKA

The Northern Lights from Camp Denali were quite spectacular.  They appeared our first night between midnight and 1:00 AM, and then faded quickly away.  I woke up Thursday morning and went out about 4:30 AM and they were just beginning.  They reached full intensity between 4:45 and 5:15 AM.

The top photo was taken Thursday morning on Kodak E200 film rated at 320 and pushed one stop in processing.  Focal length was about 24mm.  Exposure was f/4 at between 15 to 60 seconds.

The second and third photos were taken late Monday - early Tuesday on Kodak E200 film rated at 640 and pushed 2 stops in processing.  Focal length was 15mm.  Exposures were f/4 at around 8 seconds to 1 minute.

Look in the TIPS section for suggestions on taking photographs of auroras.
